Glossary (Admin)
The following table provides the specific terms that are used across this document with their descriptions.
Assessment
Assessment is a method for evaluating or measuring a student’s level of understanding on a course.
Assignment
All work in a Section is divided into assignments. Students are graded based on their performance in the assignments within a Section. Currently, assignments include the following: courseware assignments, discussion assignments, manually graded assignments, media assignments, quality assurance assignments, swappable assignments, test assignments, and writing assignments.
Audit trail
Also, referred to as an audit log, it chronologically records the changes that have been made to the data in NexPort Campus.
Automatic grading
Automatic grading allows you to create an assignment that is graded upon completion by the student. You need not manually grade these assignments. Instead, the NexPort Campus automatically grades these assignments for you.

Bookshelf
NexPort offers a storage space for documents and other media files. You can use a bookshelf to upload documents and other media that you use in sections or other areas of your campus. You can upload, organize, and share your documents in the bookshelf.

Category
A category is a folder that contains a logical grouping of similar or associated sections and training plans. A category may have any number of subcategories.
Certificate
Certificates provide tangible evidence that a user has passed a section or training plan. If your organization chooses, you may upload certificates that are available for students or administrators to print on completion of the section or training plan.
Classroom
The classroom is where students interact with assignments. Each section has its own classroom. This is where a student can go to complete a lesson, work on assignments, attempt a test, and view their grades.
Course catalog
Course catalogs provide a space for all sections and training plans to be organized and eventually published to students. An organization can have multiple course catalogs and numerous sections or training plans within each catalog. Catalogs are “made available” to students by sharing the catalog to one or more groups.

Course set
A course set is a collection of courseware.
Organizations can share courseware, to other organizations, through course sets.

NexPort Campus allows SCORM 1.2 compliant courseware packages to be used as assignments.

Custom enrollment fields
Organizations can choose to extend the data fields tracked for each enrollment. There is no limit to the number of extra fields that can be added to an organization. These fields are defined at the organization level. Student input assignments can be used to have students self-fill these fields.
Custom profile fields
Custom profile fields allow organizations to extend the default profile for their users. A custom profile field can be any information important to the organization; license number, graduation date, and others. These fields can also be marked. When a field is marked required students are asked to fill in the field before continuing.
Dashboard
The Dashboard is an intuitive interface for viewing information about the group, administrators, shared catalogs, and graphical reports for Enrollment Activity and Subscription History, for the selected organization.
Discussion assignment
You can create discussion topics and comment back and forth using the discussion board. This is similar to email, but the discussion board is viewable to everyone enrolled in the section and stores all conversations. You can also create discussions and organize them by topic. This sorting ability is known as a topic thread. Threads allow all conversations with the same topic to be grouped together. Threaded discussions also allow users to reply to a specific posting within a thread.
Discussion board
NexPort provides you with the ability to talk instructor-to-student or student-to-student through the discussion board. The discussion board allows you to create discussion topics and comment back and forth to each other. This is similar to email, but the discussion board is viewable to everyone enrolled in the section and stores all conversations. It also allows you to create discussion and organize them by topic. This sorting ability is known as a topic thread. Threads allow all conversations with the same topic to be grouped together. Threaded discussions also allow users to reply to a specific posting within a topic's thread.
Documents folder
NexPort Campus provides you with the Documents folder, which serves as a personal storage space for all your documents. You need to create a bookshelf so that you can upload documents and other media to be used for your sections.
Elective
Electives refer to an optional path that can be selected in training plans. When a student selects an elective path in a training plan the sections in that path become a mandatory requirement of their training plan.
Enroll
Enrolling in a section means you are signing up to participate in that section.

Enrollment
You can enroll in a section by clicking on the "My Training" tab. Because this tab is customizable by your institution, this tab may not be called "My Training".

Facilitated section
NexPort provides facilitated sections through instructor-led sections. These sections allow the student to be taught online with the guidance of an instructor. This type of section usually has individual deadlines for assignments, as well as a deadline for completing the section.

Grade Point Average (GPA)
The GPA score is a statistic summary or measure that denotes a student’s average performance in the course.
Grade Report
You can view statistical data about the grades of the students currently enrolled in the section, through the Grade Report. Grade reports help you keep track of a student's understanding of the courseware compared to others. Reports also help you to develop and maintain reliable and valid testing instruments and assignments for your section.
Gradebook
The gradebook is where students can view the scores and points earned for the individual assignments in a section. It provides a progress overview of all the assignments for the section.
Grading
Grading refers to assessing a student’s assignments and awarding grades to them, based on the scores secured. Grading can be manual or automated. In some instances, assignments may not be graded.
Group
A group is a subset of an organization or sub-organization. In context of NexPort, it can be formed on the basis of a department, project or functional team, task group, among others.
Learning resources such as course catalogs and documents that are shared with a group can be accessed by its members.

Homepage or page
The homepage can be conceptualized as a dashboard for a student to launch courses and view notices and other messages in their membership area.
On the homepage, you can create learning material, section notices, and news for the students, or post reminders for deadlines. You can also include syllabi and other course materials on this page.
Instructor-led sections
NexPort provides facilitated sections through instructor-led sections. Using these sections, student can be taught online with the guidance of an instructor. This type of section usually has individual deadlines for assignments, as well as a deadline for completing the section.
Instructor Tab
The Instructor tab on the MyTraining menu provides an Instructor tab. From the instructor tab you can launch the Instructor Classroom for each section you have been assigned as an instructor.
Manual test creation
You can create a test manually within the NexPort. You need not upload a test from any other program. The questions included in the test are drawn from the question banks.
Media assignments
You can upload various media such as PDFs, video, and audio to media assignments. Media assignments can be graded or ungraded material.
Media Library
Each organization and sub-organization has it’s own media library. Files stored in the media library can be used in various rich text and the media assignments. The media library allows organizations to share media files across multiple uses.
Membership
Through membership users can access the learning resources of an organization or group. Users can also enroll for sections through membership. A user can have memberships in multiple groups. After a user is added to a group, the user can access content such as course catalogs and documents that are shared with the group.
Monitor Progress
You can monitor your progress in a section, such as your current status in the section, your enrollment date, the last date that you were logged on and worked on an assignment, certificate Information, and score for the section.
My Community
On the My Community tab, you can create a Homepage and subordinate pages for your section. You can add, edit, rearrange and delete pages you create to your homepage.
My Training
On the My Training tab, you can view the sections and training plans that you have enrolled for. You can also enroll in a section or training plan, and view the progress report for your enrollments.
Organization
Within NexPort an organization can be conceptualized as a university campus or a school district. It could be a corporate entity, government body, NGO, educational institution, or other training provider.
An organization can be divided into sub-organizations. For example, ABC University may have multiple schools or campuses across the US. Each such school or campus can be defined as a sub organization in the ABC’s root organization.
Organizational model
In the Organizational model, the student is subscribed to an organization or university. Within that organization, they may be assigned membership to various groups.
Learning resources or assets that include catalogs, sections, and training plans, are shared with the various groups. Students who subscribe to an organization can view the courses available to them, based on the membership that they have, when they log on.
For instance, if a student is a member of three different groups, and each group has four different catalogs, the student would have access to 12 different catalogs containing SCORM compliant courseware.
In summary, the organizational model is based on group membership.

Permissions
Permission is access or the ability to conduct a function within NexPort. Permissions are granted by system administrators. If you are a system administrator, you can customize your own permissions for your instructors, students or other users, or you can choose one of provided permissions.

Point of Sale model
In the Point of Sale model, access to the learning resources that includes catalogs, training plans, and sections, are provided through interfaces. The individual catalogs, training plans, and sections are directly sold to the customers. They obtain access to these learning resources after the user logs on.

Progress Report
Progress reports show the details of the student enrollments. These details include the section title, the status of your progress in the course, your enrollment date, the last activity in the section, whether or not there is a section certificate and your score in the section.
Question bank
Refers to a library or compilation of all the questions pertaining to a single objective area.
Redemption link
When using ticket batches you can generate a redemption link that is tied to a single ticket in the batch. This link can be sent to the student that you wish to redeem the ticket.
Rich Text Editor
You can use the NexPort text editor when creating assignments within NexPort. You may not need to upload a document for the writing assignment, but work on the assignment within the site.
This text editor offers many of the functionalities as those offered by text editors such as Microsoft Word or other word processing programs. You can spell-check, format, and customize your writing assignment before submission.
Roles
"Roles" is the term assigned to a saved group of permissions. Roles can be created to authorize certain users with different permissions than another set of users. For example, Student, Instructor, and Administrator are the user roles defined in the NexPort.

SCORM
SCORM is an acronym for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. According to SCORM.com, “SCORM” is a set of technical standards for e-learning software products. SCORM tells programmers how to write their code so that it can “play well” with other e-learning software. Specifically, SCORM governs how online learning content and Learning Management Systems (LMSs) communicate with each other."
Section
A section is a class you plan on taking within NexPort. You can find sections by locating them within the course catalog. Multiple sections used together create a training plan.
Self-paced section
This is a section with a flexible schedule. Students can complete assignments at their own pace. The student is not expected to proceed through this self-paced section with a group. The students are required to complete the section within the prescribed time limit, though the time limit is generally much more than is required to complete the material.
Student input assignment
Student Input assignments are a powerful multi-purpose assignment type. These assignments can be used to collect information from a student in a questionnaire form. This information can be automatically stored as custom enrollment data. This data can later be used in reporting. Student input assignments may also be used to affirm a student’s agreement with a terms of service or other type of agreement.
Subscriptions
A subscription allows a user to participate in an organization. Giving a user multiple subscriptions gives them access to multiple organization.
Survey assignment
NexPort provides you with two separate ways to create surveys. You can customize your survey to include as many questions and choices as you would like. You are also provided the ability to create a fill-in-the-blank option for surveys with the "Fill in response" or comment options. Surveys will be saved until you choose to delete them, and the survey can be revised at any time. Surveys can be administered through assignments through the classroom portion of the site. Surveys can also be created in the "My Events" portion of the site. Survey assignments refer to all surveys created as an assignment in the classroom. They do not include surveys created in the "My Events" portion of the site.
Surveys
A survey is a detailed study or inspection, on a topic by gathering information through observations, questionnaires, others and analyzing it. NexPort provides you with two separate ways to create surveys. You can customize your survey to include as many questions and choices as you would like. You are also provided the ability to create a fill-in-the-blank option for surveys with the "Fill in response" or comment options. Surveys are saved until you choose to delete them, and the survey can be revised at any time. Surveys can be administered through assignments through the classroom portion of the site, which are described below. Surveys can also be created in the "My Events" portion of the site.
Swappable assignments
Swappable assignments are placeholders for assignments you may need to add at a later date.
Test assignment
Test assignments are used to administer predefined tests to students. You can create one or more tests for your section, and set the time limit within which the students are required to attempt the test, with a live countdown ‘ticking’ on the test interface page.
You can also set the maximum number of attempts allowed to retake the test, or set unlimited test attempts. You can add or modify your grade boundaries based on mark percentage.
Theme
Theme refers to the design, look and feel of your organization’s user interface in NexPort.
Ticket
A ticket is an invitation to join a group. Invitees receive a link that contains the redemption code, using which they can be given a subscription in an organization and memberships in one or more groups. The ticketing feature is also used for billing purpose. To create and dispense tickets, you must create a new ticket batch and apply membership settings.
Time or Date stamp
NexPort users can see the date and time when they submitted, uploaded, or created a document or test.
Training Plan
A training plan is a group of sections used together. There are often prerequisites used to allow the sections to be taken in the proper order. The training plan is analogous to a university degree plan.
Transcript
Transcripts provide an overall perspective at the progress and status for sections a user has undertaken. It charts the track record or progress of a student during the academic course.
User Listing
User listing refers to the list of all the users in your organization. You can search, update, or edit user details using this feature.
Click the user record to view associated information on various tabs such as profile information, subscriptions, memberships, enrollments, training plans, permissions, login credentials, communication log, and documents.
User profiles
In NexPort Campus, you can create and edit a user profile, which contains contact information and other personal information all members of your organization can see. You can all add or edit profile information at any time.
VTL
Web Hook
Web hooks are used to keep the remote system synchronized with the NexPort Campus. Through Web Hooks, the data of NexPort organizations is sent to a remote system through HTTP or HTTPS when an event is triggered.
Weighted grades
You can use this feature to make one assignment worth more than another assignment, even if each assignment is worth 100 points. For example, if you need the grades of initial assignments to be worth less than a final assignment, you can create a weighted grading scheme to allow you to do this. Weighted grades allow you to assign a weight to each assignment.
Welcome Letter
Welcome letters serves as the first formal or official mode of communication with the students, when they have been added as subscribers to the organization or groups. You can also personalize the welcome letter.
Writing assignments
You can submit writing assignments (essays) in two ways. You can create a document using the Rich Text Editor or upload a document created previously with external software by using the document upload.
